I went to see the first day of Torobaka at Sadler's Wells. I'm still excited. It was just awesome! For this production, Bangladeshi British Akram Khan and Spanish Israel Galván bring their traditional dances, kathak and flamenco. It wasn't an ethnic exchange. It was more like two people who know what dance is really well, had a conversation through their dance... I was fascinated by their differences. Even when they danced with similar choreography and were in perfect harmony, they were totally different. Akram was soft and Israel was hard. The music with only percussion and singers was fantastic, too. Towards the end of the show, I felt like I was watching a pagan religious ceremony and my soul was taken to the stage.

アクラム・カーンとイスラエル・ガルヴァンの『トロバカ』、サドラーズ・ウェルズ劇場の初日に行って参りました。

いまだ興奮冷めやらず。

いやもう、素晴らしいの一言でした。。

バングラデッシュ系イギリス人のアクラムとスペイン人のイスラエルが、それぞれ自分のルーツである舞踊、カタックとフラメンコ、を持ち寄って作り上げる舞台。
とはいえ、異文化の出会い、とかいう感じではなくて、ダンスを知りつくした2人がダンスを通して会話している感じ、とでも言いましょうか。。
2人の違いがとにかく面白かった。同じような振り付けで踊っていても、調和してるんだけど、全然違うのですよ。アクラムの柔にイスラエルの剛、って感じ。

パーカッションと歌のみの音楽も素晴らしかったです。

最後の方は何だか原始宗教の儀式を見ているような感じで、魂、舞台に持っていかれましたー。
