Bulgaria in spring, day 8 Bozhentsi | ブルガリア 春の旅 8日目 ボジェンツィ

So, this is the last post about our holiday in Bulgaria. On our way to Sofia, we stopped at a village called Bozhentsi. This is a small village famous for its traditional houses and was strongly recommended by our friend E when we had dinner together in Sofia.

さて。延々と綴って来たブルガリア旅行記、今回が最終回です。
空港のあるソフィアに向かう途中、最後にボジェンツィという村に立ち寄りました。
ここは昔ながらの家並みが保存されている素朴な村で、ソフィアで夕食を共にした E 女史が「是非行くべき！」と一押しだった場所。

In this peaceful village,

里山、といった趣の村には、

there were a stream and...

小川が流れていたり、

a lot of pretty wild flowers!

可愛らしい野の花が咲いてたり（ツクシもはえてた！）

 There was nothing special to see but the village itself was special and I enjoyed just walking around the village. We stayed near the airport that night and flew to London the following morning.

特に何があるという訳でもないのですが、足の向くまま気の向くままウロウロと歩き回ったのでした。 この後、ソフィアの空港近くに1泊して、翌朝ロンドンへ、旅の幕引きと相成りました。

今回の旅では、ソフィアのレストラン情報とブルガリア・ワインについて、ブログ『 ブルガリア情報』に大変お世話になりました。10年近く前の『地球の歩き方』しか持っておらず、ネット上にもブルガリアに関する日本語の情報があまりなかったので助かりました～。

Bulgaria in spring, day 7 Veliko Tarnovo | ブルガリア 春の旅 7日目 ヴェリコ・タルノヴォ

We left Black Sea coastal area in the morning of day seven, and headed to Veliko Tarnovo, a historic city which was the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire (1187 - 1393). It was a scenic city where houses are on hills divided by a river. After checking in the hotel, we had a walk.

7日目の朝、黒海沿岸地方を後にして古都ヴェリコ・タルノヴォに向かいます。
第二次ブルガリア帝国（1187～1393年）の首都として栄えたヴェリコ・タルノヴォは、蛇行する川に分断された丘にへばりつくように家々が建っている趣のある街。
ホテルにチェックインした後、足の向くまま散歩に出かけました。

My husband found a sign for The House with The Monkey. According to the description, this house was built by some famous architect.

「猿の家」との標識を見つけて行ってみることに。何やら有名な建築家が建てた家だそうで。

We met a local young man in a smart linen jacket in front of this house. He said hello and introduced himself and then tried to tell us something. It turned out that he asked for money for bread. We told him that he didn't look like someone who needs help. I'd never seen such a stylish beggar...

この家の前で麻のジャケットを小粋に着こなした地元の青年に声をかけられました。

「ハロー、僕の名前は○○」

と自己紹介した後、何やらゴニョゴニョと。

よく聞いてみると、パンを買うお金を恵んでくれ、と。

いやいや、キミ、とても施しが必要なようには見えないよ、と笑ってその場を離れたのですが、いやー、あんなスタイリッシュな物乞い、初めてだわ。。

At the end of our walk, we went up Trapezitsa. The whole hill was a palace during the Second Bulgarian Empire.

お散歩の締めくくりに、ツァレヴェッツの丘に登りました。

第二次ブルガリア帝国時代にはこの丘全体が宮殿だったそう。

Our holiday was nearly at an end. We headed off to our starting point Sofia the following morning.

今回の旅もいよいよ大詰め。

翌朝、振り出しのソフィアに向けて出発したのでした。

Bulgaria in spring, day 6 Nesebar | ブルガリア 春の旅 6日目 ネセバル

Nesebar is surrounded by an old wall and connected to the mainland by a narrow road (this side is Nesebar).
古い壁に囲まれたネセバルは細い道で陸地と繋がっています（手前がネセバル）。

It's been a while since I last posted about my holiday in Bulgaria. There is a little bit more that I want to share. 

Now, after leaving a dodgy castle, we drove north to our next destination Nesebar. It is so small that you can walk around the town in half an hour. There are quite a few old churches in this old town.

少々間があきましたが、ブルガリア旅行記、もう少し続きます。

胡散臭い城を後にしたわたし達、そのまま北上して次の目的地ネセバルに移動しました。

ネセバルは、30分もあれば、歩いて一周できるくらい小さな街。古い街並みに、これまた古い教会が点在しています。

The oldest church in Nesebar called St. Sofia Church which was built in the late fifth century to the early sixth century. Now it is a ruin but makes a good playground for children.

ネセバル最古の教会、聖ソフィア教会。5世紀後半～6世紀前半に建設されたそう。
残っているのは外壁のみ。廃墟と化していて、子供たちの遊び場になっていました。

Nesebar is placed on a small peninsula sticking out to the Black Sea. The beach above looks like a pebble beach but actually consists of  mussel shells.

黒海に突き出た半島に位置するネセバルは、周囲を海に囲まれています。

上の写真のビーチ、砂利かと思いきやムール貝の殻なのです。

This restaurant was recommended by a receptionist in our hotel. According to her, the best restaurant in town. I loved sardine-like local fish there called blue fish which was very fresh! I noticed most restaurants in Bulgaria had big screen TVs and they were always on. It would always be a cookery channel which would often be a British program. So we had Bulgarian meal every day watching Heston Blumenthal or Jamie Oliver (and admiring what they are cooking).

イワシのような地魚（ブルー・フィッシュ）が美味しかった！

それにしてもブルガリアのレストランは大きなテレビがつけっぱなし、というところが多かったです。

チャンネルは常にお料理番組。しかも、かなりの確率でイギリスの番組。

というわけで、連日、ブルガリア料理を食べつつ、ヘストン・ブルーメンタソールやジェイミー・オリバーの顔を眺めていたのでした。

Bulgaria in spring, day 5 Sozopol | ブルガリア 春の旅 5日目 ソゾポル

On the fifth day, we arrived at Sozopol on the Black Sea coast just before lunch time. It's such a tiny town that you can see the whole town in half an hour.

5日目、昼前に黒海沿岸の街ソゾポルに到着。
ソゾポルは、半時間ほどで1周できるような小さな街です。

In Bulgaria, every city or town has some antiquities. The history of Sozopol goes back to the 12th century BC and there are several antiquities in the town. The photo above is an old church, I think.

ブルガリアではどこに行っても街中に遺跡が点在していました。

ソゾポルの歴史も紀元前12世紀まで遡るそうで、いくつか遺跡が残っていました。

I'd never seen the Black Sea before. It wasn't black. The water was so clear that I saw some fish swimming around.

初めての黒海。黒くない。

透明度がすごーく高くて、泳いでる魚が見えました。

Traditional wood and stone houses. This scenery reminded me of the Japanese islands in Setonai-kai.

なんとなく、瀬戸内海の島々の風景を彷彿とさせるような。

Roses in pots. Bulgaria is famous for its roses and yes, there were lots of roses planted everywhere.
鉢植えのバラ。さすがバラの国、いろんなところに植わってました。

 

The following morning, we visited a castle we saw on the map our hotel gave us. The castle was situated 20 minutes driving from Sozopol. It looked like it was still under construction. At the entrance, there was a dodgy looking man telling us the ticket is 10 Lv (about 5 euros) each which we thought was extremely expensive (so we didn't go inside).

翌朝、ホテルでもらった地図に載っていたソゾポルから車で20分ほどのところにあるお城に行ってみました。
このお城、今まさに建築中という風情。
入口に胡散臭い男がいて
チケット代1人10レヴァ（約5ユーロ）、と。
法外に高い！（なので中には入らず）

野原の真ん中に謎の城と建設途中の数件の住宅。
何だかシュール。。

Bulgaria in spring, day 4 Plovdiv and Bachikovski Monastery | ブルガリア 春の旅 4日目 プロヴディフとバチコヴォ僧院

On the fourth day, we had a long walk in the old town of Plovdiv.

4日目。
プロヴディフの旧市街を散策。

A cafe near our hotel. It looked like the cafe was a gathering spot for edgy young people. We had lovely fresh apple juice!
宿泊したホテルと同じ通りにあったカフェ。大学生と思しきエッジの効いた若者たちが集ってました。ここのフレッシュ・ジュース、美味しかった！

After lunch, we drove to a winery.

ランチの後は車に乗り込み、市内のワイナリーへ。

The Dragomir Winery Estate is a small winery established by the owner couple seven years ago. Even though they were busy preparing for a big group coming that evening, they welcomed us and showed us around.  We tasted two types of their red wine; young red wine made from Bulgarian variety Mavrud and PITOS (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignion and Bulgarian variety Rubin) which was recommended by the lady owner. I was very impressed by PITOS (2010) which had very fruity aroma with a hint of chocolate and vanilla even though we didn't have enough time to let the wine breath. It would be delicious if we give it enough time (she said they normally open this wine one hour beforehand). So we bought two bottles for us. It was 25 Lv (about 12.5 euros) each. We'll open it for a spacial occasion. After we left the winery, we headed south to Bachikovski Monastery. 

7年前にご夫婦で始めたという小さなワイナリー Dragomir Winery Estate。

夜に来る団体さんのための準備中にひょっこり現れたわたし達を、快く迎え入れて案内してくれました。

ブルガリアの品種マヴルッドで作られた若い赤ワイン（樽から小瓶に移して持ってきてくれました！）と、オーナーいち押しの PITOS という赤ワイン（メルロー、カベルネ・ソーヴィニヨン、ブルガリアの品種ルビン）を試飲。
この PITOS (2010) がすごーく美味しかった！抜栓してすぐだったのですが、フルーティな香りの中にチョコレートやヴァニラが感じられ、これ、時間おいたらますます美味しくなりそう（オーナーは、「通常、1時間前に抜栓する」とおっしゃってました）。
というわけで、自宅用に2本お買い上げ。1本25レヴァ（約12.5ユーロ）。高級ワインですな。特別な日に開けようと思います。
 
さて。ワイナリーを後にして、そのまま南下、バチコヴォ僧院を目指します。

It looks like a church covered by frescoes is one of Bulgarian orthodox characteristics. I was eager to know the background stories of some of the paintings.

教会がフレスコ画で覆われているのはブルガリア正教の特徴なのでしょうか。

よく見ると、是非とも背景となる物語を知りたくなる絵が。

As we walked further into the mountain, there was a tiny chapel. This one is even older than the monastery which was built in the 11th century. Unfortunately, the gate was closed.

山の中をさらに進むと、小さな教会が。

11世紀に建てられた僧院よりも古い教会だそう。

残念ながら、中には入れませんでした。

There was a cemetery for the monks at the back of the chapel.
僧院の修道士たちの終の棲家なのですね。

The following morning, we headed off to the Black Sea Coast.

翌朝、プロブディフを出発して黒海沿岸地方に向かいました。

Bulgaria in spring, day 3 Rila Monastery | ブルガリア 春の旅 3日目 リラの僧院

On the third day, we drove off to the Rila Monastery. The Bulgarian people we met in Sofia were rather shy and modest but it turned out that they change once they are behind wheels! There were a lot of pipping and challenging overtaking on the road. After two and half hours driving through mountains, we arrived at the monastery. I was really looking forward to seeing this monastery, so it was the highlight of this holiday for me.

3日目。
レンタカーでソフィアを出発、リラの僧院へ向かいます。

これまで出会ったブルガリアの人々はシャイで控えめで。。という感じだったのですが、ハンドルを握ると一気に豹変。クラクション鳴らしまくりーの、強引に追い越しまくリーの、みなさん、なかなかのアグレッシブ・ドライバー。。

ソフィアを後にして山道を行くこと2時間半、リラの僧院に到着です。
この僧院を見るのをすごーく楽しみにしていたワタクシ。今回の旅のハイライトといっても過言ではありません。

After passing the gate, in front of me was this beautiful place.

門を抜けると目の前にドドーン、と。
思わず「わーっ。。」と声が出る美しさ。

The centre of the monastery is the Holy Virgin Church which is totally covered by frescoes.

僧院の中心、聖母誕生教会はフレスコ画でみっちりと覆われておりました。

The monastery was completed in the 14th century but burnt down in the fire in 1833 and rebuilt afterwards. The only surviving building is this Hrelyo's Tower.

14世紀に現在の形になった僧院は、1833年の火災でおおかた燃えてしまいます。
のちに再建されるのですが、唯一火災を免れて当時の姿をとどめているのが、このフレリョの塔。

I could've stayed there much longer but the snow started falling and it became extremely cold, so we decided to head off to our next destination Provdiv, the second biggest city in Bulgaria. I read my guidebook about the Rila Monastery that night in our hotel room and found that we missed the history museum. Silly us! 

いつまでも眺めていたかったけれど、なんと雪が降り出して、あまりの寒さに退散。
そのままブルガリア第二の都市プロヴディフに向かいました。
ホテルでガイドブックを見直したところ、歴史博物館を見忘れていたことが発覚。痛恨！
